TEE-rrific Calgary Golf Classic
August 31, 2006
Redwood Meadows Golf and Country Club
Blue Alberta skies and brilliant sunshine, fabulous fairways and even more fabulous food — the 128 golfers at the 13th annual tournament hosted by Culinary Team Alberta couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.
During the 18 holes of golf, foursomes enjoyed rounds of gourmet snacks and refreshments, an epicurean lunch and wine tastings. Players on the first, second and third place overall winning teams each won a bottle of the finest red. But great sponsorship ensured that every golfer got a prize. From golf gear and clothing to food and wine products — and an indoor barbecue for the Early Bird Prize draw winner — everyone went home a winner.
Sponsors that made the 2006 Calgary Golf Classic such a success included:
|
Alberta Pork Producers Bow River Foods Ltd. Bridge Brand Food Services Ltd. Calgary Italian Bakery Campbell Company of Canada Centennial Foodservice City Fish Sales Ltd. Lets Pasta Food Services Ltd. Parmalat Canada |
Pasta Mill Patisserie du Soleil Pre Pak Meats Calgary Ltd. Royal Doulton Canada Limited Schneider Foods Spolumbo's Fine Foods & Deli Steelite International Canada Ltd. Vitality Foodservice Canada Ltd. WOW Factor Desserts |
This year, Culinary Team Alberta commissioned and presented special show plates to all of the hole sponsors in appreciation for their support.
Off the course — and par for the course: The dinner was, once again, an outstanding end to the day. Chef Resi Mendoza led a brigade of colleagues, including fellow-Team Alberta chefs Chris Thomson, Junko Sadahiro, Patrick Gayler and Lloyd Winters, who cooked, barbecued and flambéed course after course. Lobster ravioli . . . Haida-style marinated and cedar-smoked salmon . . . seasonal berries in Grande Marnier . . . and more. Every dish paired with a superb wine.
Not surprisingly, long before the day was over, the talk was of next year . . . golfers and foursomes . . . sponsors and prizes . . . chefs and food . . .
