ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Shortly after his first competition as a Culinary Team Alberta member, Chef Restituto (Resi) Mendoza decided he wanted to organize a fundraising event in Calgary to help the team. As Executive Chef at a golf and country club, the event choice was obvious: The CTA Calgary Golf Classic was born!
With the goal of offering a great game of golf in great company with lots of really great food, it was a winning formula — for participants and the team. The first year, Chef Resi and his organizing committee hosted participants at the Heritage Pointe Golf Course.
Over the past 19 years, the Golf Classic has become a well-established tournament, highly regarded as much for the outstanding round of golf and terrific prizes as for the big barbecue lunch, on-course snacks and post-game, multi-course dinner prepared by Culinary Team Alberta members. “Every golfer says it’s worth the price of admission,” says Chef Resi. “Everyone wins a prize — and they tell me it’s the best food of any tournament around.”
To date, well over 2,500 golf (and food!) enthusiasts have enjoyed a round of 18 holes, a day of fine eating, and the chance to meet and talk with some of Alberta’s top culinary pros. The money raised each year at the Calgary Golf Classic contributes directly to Culinary Team Alberta’s efforts in international culinary competition.
