Canadian culinary teams have competed internationally since 1972 but 1984 marked the "coming of age" of Canada's chefs -- the year they established themselves as worthy Olympians in the international culinary arena.

1984... The tradition of excellence begins!
Culinary Team Canada, captained by Mr. Hubert Scheck, is crowned World Champion for the first time at the 1984 World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt.
1988... A medal-winning performance!
Culinary Team Canada, captained by Mr. Hans Ulrich Hertzig, wins gold at the World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt.
1990... Team Alberta appointed the National Culinary Team!
After a resounding success at the Expogast 1990 Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg, Culinary Team Alberta and Manager Maurice O'Flynn are asked by the Canadian Federation of Chefs and Cooks to represent Canada as the National Culinary Team at the 1992 World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt.
1992... World Champions!
Culinary Team Canada finishes first overall at the World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt and is designated World Champion until 1996.
1996... Who will next represent Canada?
At the Annual National Convention of the CFCC in June, the executive and membership determine that the regional team with the best finish at the September 1996 World Culinary Olympics in Berlin will be appointed the next national culinary team.

The results are in at the World Culinary Olympics!

Team Alberta to represent Canada from 1997 to 2001!
Out of 58 regional teams, Culinary Team Alberta picks up a gold and finishes second overall, the highest ranking of all Canadian regional teams.

The new Culinary Team Canada is born!
In October, Simon Smotkowicz, Manager of Culinary Team Alberta which succeeded in Berlin, is asked by the CFCC to form the new Culinary Team Canada.
