BACKGROUND

Alberta is known nationally and internationally for its culinary teams. Since Culinary Team Alberta burst onto the international culinary competition scene in 1984 at the World Culinary Olympics, finishing first place overall in their category, the Team has been ‘bringing home the Gold’. With a world-class resume, our chefs, individually and as a team, are regarded among the best in the world. When the spotlight falls on Culinary Team Alberta, it lights up the entire province.

2005 - Alberta and BC chefs, under the leadership of Culinary Team Alberta managers, make it three consecutive wins for Canada at Scothot International Culinary Competition.

2004 - Culinary Team Alberta's two professional teams place 5th and 8th overall at the World Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany.

2002 - Culinary Team Alberta wins The World Championship at Expogast Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg.

April 2001 - Chef Vinod Varshney is appointed Team Manager of Culinary Team Alberta.

1997-2001 Culinary Team Alberta members join Culinary Team Canada and compete as a national team for the next four years culminating in their Best Overall and World Champion win at the Culinary Grand Prix ScotHot in Glasgow, Scotland.

1997 - Simon Smotkowicz, Manager of Culinary Team Alberta, is appointed by the CFCC to form the new Culinary Team Canada, which will compete in the 2000 World Culinary Olympics in Germany.

1996 - At the national convention in June, the CFCC executive and membership decide to appoint the regional team with the best finish at the 1996 Berlin Olympics as the national culinary team representing Canada from 1997 to 2001. Out of 58 regional teams, Culinary Team Alberta wins a Gold medal and finishes second, the highest ranking of all the Canadian regional teams. Student Team Alberta wins Gold in the professional regional competition.

1994 - Culinary Team Alberta wins Gold at Expogast in Luxembourg. Student Team Alberta finishes in first place winning five Golds in the student competition.

1992 - Culinary Team Canada competes at the World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany, finishing first overall and earning the title of "World Champions".

1990 - Culinary Team Alberta wins Gold at Expogast in Luxembourg. Culinary Team Alberta is asked by the CFCC to represent Canada as the National Culinary Team at the 1992 World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt.

1988 - Culinary Team Alberta wins Grand Gold at the World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany.

1984 - Culinary Team Alberta wins Grand Gold at the World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany.

1983 - Culinary Team Alberta forms and competes in Klagenfurt winning gold.
